The concept of rate-dependent blocks is almost a century old but it is still scarcely presented, being even ignored in most of the modern clinical electrocardiography books. In the analysis of all the images obtained during any investigation in current cardiology practice, including the ECG tracings, it is importaint to remember the rule "you see only what you look for and recognize only what you know" – attributed to Dr. Merrill C. Sosman (1890-1959), a distinguished radiologist at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Boston, MA, USA. This booklet on rate-dependent blocks may be a small contribution to the field of clinical electrocardiography and I would add what my ancestors used to say:
